Fri, 24 November 2006 I know that the title is a little scary but please don't be frightened because of it. We are not that girly, even if we tried. But we do discuss our ideal dream houses and what we really, really want. If Chris goes with plan A, she will get geek-karma points for a lifetime. We have feedback from Henk and Anne. We discuss our forums, which can be found at the easy to remember forum.sofadogs.com, and we are doing a guest spot at Fanboy Smackdown next week (targeted release date Thursday, Nov. 30th). Also, Chris and I did a guest column for shebytches.com, which you should check out. P.S. - I hope our American friends are having a wonderful Thanksgiving and get to eat lots of turkey and not get too trampled at the mall. Gobble-Gobble! "I'm a turkey. Kill me!" Fri, 17 November 2006 It's magic time, folks, as we review The Illusionist and The Prestige, this year's two Hollywood magic movies. The Illusionist, directed by Neil Burger, stars Ed Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel. The Prestige, directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins and my personal favourite Memento), stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Cain, Scarlett Johansson, and a very special appearance by David Bowie and Andy Serkis. What more could you ask for? Promo played was for The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy and the guys behind the Fanboy Smackdown podcast were wonderful enough to provide us with a funny new bumper. Thanks guys! Also, thanks to Aser, Dani, and Henk for the feedback. Also we talked about our new, handy-dandy forums we are sharing with the guys of Sofa Dogs. They can be found at http://z11.invisionfree.com/sd2gap/ and we are just waiting for some people to join in so we can get some good discussions going. We can even get into spoilers (as long as they are clearly labelled as such.) Can't wait to see you there. Voicemail is 206-202-4894 or email twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com or Odeo. Fri, 3 November 2006 Chris is sick this week so John, her other half, has stepped into her shoes and is kind enough to play the part of replacement host. So what you guys get is sort of a random, off-topic, discussion on all of John's favorite things, like Patrick Stewart, Jackie Chan, Torchwood, Elizabeth Moon, etc... I'm too tired to list it all. But if you listen closely, you will hear a little bit of Chris in this one as well. Oh, and John and I talk about a David Hewlett Amanada Tapping clip and if you haven't seen it, you can find it here on YouTube. Another week without voicemails but we did receive a nice spooky story from Henk. The communication lines are open. Voicemail is 206-202-4894 or email twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com or Odeo. Fri, 27 October 2006 ![]() Boo! We hope we didn't scare you too much there. :D This week, we get to talk about our most favorite holiday of the year... that is, until the next absolutely favorite holiday comes up. Mostly, our love of candy, dressing up, and a few ghost stories thrown in for good measure. Not to worry, we don't try to be scary. No voicemails this week but we do some email cleanup from Aser, Henk, Curnir, and Michael. Discuss the results on a certain legal binding agreement and the forum poll question is below. Remember, we would love to hear your ghost stories so please send them in to all the usual places. The voicemail line is 206-202-4894, email twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com, or Odeo here. Fri, 20 October 2006 Man your battle stations. Some strong debatin' is going on this week. We seemed to deliberate a lot on the basic darkness of Battlestar Galactica and we get into a lot of spoilers for the first three episodes of season three. Also, Chris and I need your opinion a listenerâ??s email that we intensely debated. Once you listen to this one, I am sure you will all have an opinion. Make sure to send those in cause that would be very cool. A little warning, I missed some bad words in the editing. I'm posting it as explicit but I hope it doesn't cause you much trouble. Thanks to Aser and Michael in Nashville for the great voicemails. The voicemail line is 206-202-4894, email twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com, or Odeo here. Fri, 13 October 2006 We are hitting the books again folks and this time we come through with our threat to discuss Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Those two are gods among the fantasy genre and we take a minute or two to discuss their masterpiece of collaboration. Thanks to Grahame and Curnir for the emails and Bob for the voicemail. Our next selection is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. And for the whole multimedia experience, this will include the book, the miniseries, and the comics if you got'em. So you have eight weeks to find the media type of your choice. Also, we get into some other general tv stuff with some slight spoilers for Battlestar Galactica. Not to worry, I made sure to include a warning right before if you would like to skip. Speaking of, if you have any comments on what happened in the season premiere or the show in general, send them on in and we can include them into next weekâ??s show which is all about our favourite space refugees. The voicemail line is 206-202-4894, email twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com, or Odeo here. Theme music is by BUDZ and they can be found at PodSafeAudio.com. PS - Happy Bobtoberfest to y'all! Fri, 6 October 2006 This week, we were bad and didn't feel quite prepared to discuss Good Omens. So instead of doing an appalling job of it, we decided to just do an off-the-cuff show about anything and everything. And to get an idea of what we touched on: the moving blues, car buying, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, DVD buying, Stargate Atlantis, Full Metal Alchemist, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, TV watching habits, David Hewlett, "McKay & Mrs. Mille", "Duet", Paul McGillion, evil genius Stargate writers, A Dog's Breakfast, Heroes, The Dressden Files, Dexter, Doctor Who, a little more Battlestar Galactica, a little more David Hewlett, Cube, Treed Murray, Patrick McKenna, Traders... Bumper by Jon & Stu from Sofa Dogs. That pretty much covers it. SCI-FI CANADIAN REMINDER: Doctor Who's second season starts on Monday (October 9th, 8pm) on the CBC. And the third season of Battlestar Galactica premiers on Space Saturday night with a repeat performance on Sunday. I'm starting to feel very thankful for this year's sci-fi bounty. Fri, 29 September 2006 We are back and with the help of all you guys, I think we have put together the best show ever! These have to be the best voicemails in the history of podcasting and if you only listen to one show, it should be this one. So, we send our thanks to Aser, Ben, Michael in Nashville, Tee Morris, Henk, Stu, Florida Zack, Ed from Texas, Paul from Elk River, Stoffern, Epic Dewfall, and Bob. So, if you found any of these guys interesting, you should check out their podcats: Aser's Warrior Ethos Podcast, Ben's The 'L' News, Tee Morris' The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy, and Stu's Sofa Dogs. Remember, we are back to a somewhat normal programming schedule next week where we discuss Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett's Good Omens. Send in those voicemails at 206-202-4894 or Odeo. Fri, 22 September 2006 ![]() Hey boys and girls, Tony from the Fanboy Smackdown Podcast here. Chris and Eliz... well... we all know that they are taking a much deserved break. What most of you don't know is that the girls asked Tony and I to watch over the studio whilst they were lounging and eating Bon Bons. (Because, honestly... work? move? Do we really believe that?) So we spent a few days making sure that their lingerie drawers were secure from any intruders, all of the porn on their hard drives was backed up, and that all of the beer purchased more than a week ago was properly disposed of. So... by Saturday morning we were hungover and hungry. So we grabbed the iRiver and headed out to a diner to record a podcast. I was also able to hack into their email and pull out some feedback from the past few shows. We threw our own promo in between the feedback. We're promotion whores that way. This one is all about the Glory that is Breakfast. So leggo my Eggo, sit back and enjoy... Fri, 15 September 2006 This week is brought to you....wait, these are the show notes not the intro to the show. So let's get to it. This week I hijack the show in order to introduce you to Librivox. Listeners, this is Librivox , Librivox, these are our awesome listeners. But seriously, in this episode, we listen to Paula Berinstein from The Writing Show interview Librivox founder, Hugh McGuire. And since we don't want you all too get too used to listening to other people's voices, we have four short stories that Elizabeth and I have recorded for Librivox. Remember everyone, we are still looking for entries for our appreciation show. The deadline for submissions is September 25. You can send us a voicemail via Odeo or you can call us at 206-202-4894. Or for those of you who prefer to type your messages, then you can email us at twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com or post a comment on the boards at http://twogirlsandapodcast.libsyn.com. Fri, 8 September 2006 Hi everyone, Chris here. We thought it might be a good idea to post instructions for appreciation show submissions. Well you know, in case you were interested in submitting something for us. Which we hope you are. In any case, here is what we are hoping you will do: 1. Send us an email or voicemail or leave a comment on the board (why not put it in this post even?) in which you tell us: how you found Two Girls and a Podcast, which episode you first listened to (if you can remember) and what made you decide to stick around. -or- 2. Send us a bumper for the show. Basically the best would be an audio clip like you would send "This is [your name here], and you are listening to Two Girls and a Podcast" or some such variation. -or- 3. Send a "This week is brought to you by the letter" and pick a letter. Please note that you can do any of the 3 options or if you want, you can do all of them. (Personally I am hoping for a lot of 1 and 2). Another important note, these are only guidelines to give you ideas of what to send in. Please feel free to send us anything you want. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 25. We will be recording the appreciation episode on Tuesday. Remember everyone, Eliz wants you to make our inbox blow up. Think of how much fun it would be if you actually managed to do it! Category: announcement -- posted at: 7:47 AM Comments[23] |
Fri, 8 September 2006 Shall I be mysterious? Nah, the title is mysterious enough. Welcome to our outtakes episode and in honour of our six-month anniversary, we present to you six outtakes from the archive. The archive is kept in the basement so I hope you don't mind the sound of a few drips and sloshes for added effect. Sorry no promo this week. Nor do we have voicemail or feedback. That will all be saved until we come back from our little "non-break". (I will not use the word hiatus.) Remember: send us those voicemails via Odeo or landline 206-202-4894. Emails will find their way to us by using the address twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Don't forget that the deadline for submissions to the Appreciation show is quickly coming up. Fri, 1 September 2006 Inspired by true-life events, this week we discuss the fun and merriment of weddings. They are such a sober affair, that is, until we have a talk about them. And Chris is not a lush. We just want to make that clear. This week's promo is from the Warrior Ethos Podcast by our friend Aser. Thanks to Doug from the Geek Acres Podcast for the great bumper. This week's voicemail was provided by Paul from Elk River, Aser, and CA Sizemore; email from Florida Zack. Voicemail us via Odeo or you can pick up a phone and dial 206-202-4894. Fri, 25 August 2006 I know that we promised a short show at the start but as you can see, it sort of didn't happen. Anywho, how can someone be brief when it comes to Stargate? Impossible, I tell you and we discuss each and every one of the 200 shows... Just kidding. We discuss the 200th ep, aptly titled &"200";, and the movie, and the series in general, and a little bit of Stargate: Atlantis. (Heard mostly in the form of David Hewlett love.) If this only wets your appetite, you should visit Stargate Louisville for more podcast fun on the topic of all things Stargate. We also discuss some of the stuff that has been happening on the boards and play a promo for Charlie the Beer Guy's podcast, Speaking of Beer. And if you haven't done so already, you should visit the website, SheBytches.com for some interesting articles. And perhaps leave a comment at FanboySmackdown.com. And that is it, we promise not to make you do anything else. You can send voicemail, but only if you want to, via Odeo (thanks to Ian for our nifty new button) or through our voicemail line 206-202-4894. For email (which will also accept mp3s, cough!cough!), they can be sent to twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Thanks to BUDZ for the theme music. Fri, 18 August 2006 Not to worry, no devils were harmed in the making of this podcast. But we do get into the details of our upcoming hiatus and dole out some info concerning our upcoming shows. To be honest, this normal looking podcast is just a front for a really great feedback episode. We have voicemails from Henk, Aser, Ian and Tony and some wonderful emails. This week's promo is for the Geek Acres podcast who was kind enough to sign our Frappr map. (We apologize for the awkward transition.) You can send us voicemail via Odeo or through our voice mail line 206-202-4894. For you emailing pleasure, you can send correspondence to twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Fri, 11 August 2006 Back to the Future... er, I mean, back to the eighties: they were the days of big hair, leg warmers, and that crazy blue eye shadow. Freaky. We take a few minutes (about twenty) to discuss our favourite cheezie moments in 80's history. Knight Rider, MacGyver, Road House, etc. But I'm sure we have forgotten a few good ones that need to have their moment in the sun. Send them via all the usual routes (email, voice mail) and we will make sure they get their due. This week's promos are Random Signal and The Babylon Podcast. We also take a few minutes to decide what to read next in our little book club and it is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. (I love this book so if you have not read it yet, I highly recommend.) Got any questions (why does it hurt when I pee?!) or comments? We would like to hear them and we have a phone line for just such a purpose. It is 206-202-4894. Or if email is more to your liking, we have a mailbox as well. It is twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Fri, 4 August 2006 We are hitting the books again and in this session, we discuss Enderâ??s Game by Orson Scott Card. If you don't recognize OSC's work, you may know him as the author who wrote a really great review of the film Serenity. Yep, he is that cool. So we discuss what we liked, didn't like, favourites and the what-nots with a lovely email from Curnir to spur on the dialogue. Also, you get two promos this week: I Should Be Writing and The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd. We couldn't decide which to go with so you get both. Thanks for the voicemails from Aser, Curnir and Karen from Kalifornia. You too can hear yourself on this podcast (you know you want to) by dialling 206-202-4894 or sending us an email at twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Fri, 28 July 2006 Get ready for something a little different this week. We talk about the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival that takes place in our hometown of Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada.) I attend every year and Chris plays interviewer to get the goods on this brilliant event. You may hear more about the festival in the upcoming weeks so this is a good intro for anyone who has never heard of it. We received some really great voicemails and feedback so that is why this week's episode is a touch longer than normal. But considering how much Chris and I like to talk, we take all the blame. This week's promo is the Downshiftme podcast and the hosts, Matt and AJ, have finally moved to Nova Scotia so all of us Canadians need to send them a great big welcome. Thanks to Tee Morris for making us our very first bumper. You rock! Fri, 21 July 2006 Don't you just love summer movies? They are amusing and we figured it was about time we did another movie review. The fearless, cunning, and slightly insane, Captain Jack is back in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It wouldn't be summer without a Johnny Depp movie. The free AC didn't go amiss either. WARNING: Argh! There be spoilers to be found after about the first ten minutes. But we give you plenty of warning before we get to those so please do not blame us for our spoilerific tendencies. This week's promo is the Podculture podcast. Also, thanks to Yahoo! Podcasts for featuring us on their frontpage. Fri, 14 July 2006 ![]() Well, it is looking like the second time is the charm for us this week. After a computer snafu, due to a loose nut behind the keyboard (Eliz), we lost version one. I am sure we did not leave anything out the second time around. We get into more of the Harry Potter questions and have a fun debate on which characters we think might live and die in book seven. Not that we know, of course... no, of course not. Henk's opinions website on magic systems and more can be found here. Promo is by The Fanboy Smackdown Podcast. Also, our next book club selection will be Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Next week, we will be discussing Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man's Chest and we would like you to send in your movie reviews/opinions. Sun, 9 July 2006 Sorry for the lateness of part two; when an offer to go see Pirates II comes your way, you just have to jump on it. Plus, theatre was much cooler than apartment. So here is the continuation of our feedback from our Harry Potter episode, thanks to Florida Zack and other great people from the boards. Also, we play a promo for Karen from Kalifornia's new podcast, Bunkcast. Lots of fun so you should check it out (for an adult audience.) Basically, we discuss the book, debate a few finer points, get into questions and a little bit of trivia (thanks Debbie!) Promo is by Ian the Ranting Scotsman and it is very cool. So we hope you don't mind the breaking up of the show. This way, we get to still include all of your the emails and feedback. Expect to see part two in a day or two. Fri, 7 July 2006 Sorry folks but our episode #17, which is a love fest of all things Harry Potter (just kidding!) is going to be a little late this week. Both Chris and I have have been travelling and we somehow recorded twice (literally) the amount for one typical episode. So, all factors considered, it has been a challenging week to get this puppy edited up. But never fear, we will have something for you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take a minute to vote in our brand spankin' new poll. I'm sure you will all side with me, just wait. If you have suggestions on future poll questions, please send them to twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Also, if you are a LiveJournal user and have been avoiding the whole subscription thing, you can now add twogirlspodcast to your friends list and you will be notified of new episodes/announcements as they happen. Thu, 29 June 2006 ![]() Here is our "short" show about summer and what makes it special for us: swimming, camping (in an indoor camp sort of camping), drinking, and all that jazz. Plus, as an added bonus, you get to hear a few of the things we don't like about it: like our inability to tan. Also, we have some interesting feedback to talk about this week:, Tony from Fanboysmackdown.com and Dani from NC dropped us a line. Not to mention a couple of emails that made us feel compelled to read and discuss. Don't forget, next week is Book Club week where we will be discussing Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone if you are in the US). Get your comments in early and we will play them on next week's show. The voice mail line is 206-202-4894 and our email address is twogirlsandapodcast@gmail.com. Thu, 22 June 2006 This week we discuss the state of world affairs ... or actually the state of television. We are a little down about it because we found out the date of the Canadian premier of the second season of Doctor Who. I guess we can blame this podcast on the Doctor; he has broad shoulders, he can take it. Or the CBC but we are not sure about the state of its shoulders. We get into why we haven’t turned the tv on in over a week and other little fun stuff. Not to mention, fun with voicemail. Thu, 8 June 2006 Welcome to the inaugural meeting of our cozy little book club where we discuss Bram Stoker's Dracula, the greatest book of our time! Well, a highly entertaining one at least. We discuss our favorite parts, compare it to the various movies that have tried to do the book justice and our attempts to recast a few of the characters. Nothing too heavy. Next up, Harry Potter and the Philospher Stone (Sorcerer's Stone for those in the US) by JK Rowling and recommended by our favorite chef, Johane. Remember, we are looking for suggestions for our next pick so don't forget to send them in. As always, theme music, "Out Behind the Juke Joint", is by BUDZ and they can be found at PodSafeAudio.com. Fri, 12 May 2006 There are two types of people in this world: those who have seen the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show and those who have not (or won't admit that they have.) Is there a greater truth to be found in this song and dance number? Heck if we know but if you can enlighten us with your opinion, please send them on. Or you should at least check out the official Rocky Horror Picture Show website for some great downloads, forums, or info like history and profiles. Announcement: In four weeks time, we are going to read and then discuss Bram Stoker's Dracula. You are welcome to join us if you like in our little impromptu book club. Also, if you have any suggestions as to what we should read for our second book, send them along. Send us email at TwoGirlsAndAPodcast @ gmail.com or visit us at TwoGirlsAndAPodcast.libsyn.com. Fri, 5 May 2006 Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...those darn peeping toms... Just kidding. Today we talk about the magic behind the world of podcasting but mostly just in a general sort of way. If you want techno-speak, you will have to go somewhere else. But, we do get into how we create our podcasts, podcatchers, podcast directories and some of the podcasts we love. Who do we love? Pottercast, The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd, Quirky Nomads, Cinecast, The Bitterest Pill, Canadian Podcast Buffet, Mugglecast, Slice of Sci-Fi, Downshiftme, but they are all good. So go out there and adopt a new one today and remember to tell them that we sent 'ya!Direct download: TwoGirlsAndAPodcast_-_08_P_is_for_Podcasting.mp3 Category: podcasts -- posted at: 12:08 AM Comments[6] |
Sat, 29 April 2006 Welcome to the wonderful world of dining alone. It has happened to all of us and we should not be ashamed. We are all in this together. Arm in arm. It will be all okay. We get into the fun of dining alone in restaurants or at home. Not to mention, the fun of cooking for one person. And please, no making fun of the contents of my freezer. We also throw in a couple of our favorite recipes and if anyone has any for peanut butter dishes, please send them this way. Enjoy! (I apologize for the lateness of this podcast, water heaters are evil.)

Thu, 20 April 2006 It is time for the Oscars...er, the Canadian Geek Oscars anyway. The Spacey Awards, brought to us by the wonderful people at the canadian sci-fi channel Space, include some categories that get decided by the fans (so go vote by May 8th--vote early, vote often). We thought we would like to have our say concerning who/what we thought was deserving in the previous year. Movies, TV, there is something here for everyone. Warning, contains a couple words that might not be considered family friendly by all (not anything you couldn't hear on CBC.) Fri, 7 April 2006 Welcome to our love-fest of all things Jim Henson. The guy is still entertaining us from the great beyond and if he had still been alive, this year would have been this 70th birthday. We feel it is time we honoured him in our own little special way by taking a moment to discuss a little bit of his history and some of the special characters his legacy has left us. All good fun. All the information pulled for his bio can be found at http://www.henson.com/company/jim_henson.html, http://www.jimhensonlegacy.org, and http://imdb.com/name/nm0001345/.
